Leading Green: Audrey Vinant-Tang on Leading Sustainability Across NBCUniversal

Audrey Vinant-Tang leads the global sustainability team at NBCUniversal, and it’s a path she’s been on nearly her entire life

“I’ve always been interested in the environment. I watched all the documentaries and grew up cherishing outdoor activities like hiking and snorkeling. When I studied environmental science in college, I imagined finding myself doing research out on a coral reef. But instead, I became increasingly inspired by the impact that organizations like Comcast NBCUniversal can have on sustainability and to make a difference in our daily lives.”

Today, she oversees the company’s emissions reporting and roadmap to carbon neutral by 2035 across Scope 1 and 2 emissions for studios, theme parks, and offices, which means every day is anything but standard.

“Every day is different as sustainability can be applied to so many aspects of the company, and we are an internal resource to anyone looking to achieve our targeted reduction goals. This means sometimes we’re engaged in discussions on a large-scale solar panel installation, or a review of in-office recycling, and everything in between.”

“In particular, I’m really excited about the results we’re seeing from our NBCUniversal Sustainable Production Program. The program targets achievement of certain metrics on set, such as fuel emissions and material conservation. Recent films like Jurassic World Rebirth and How to Train Your Dragon were able to achieve measurable reductions. As someone who is data-driven, it was rewarding to see!”

When asked about her favorite part of working on the lot, her answer proves that sustainability is always on her mind. “It has to be seeing all the guests ride by on the Studio Tour; their excitement is contagious and adds to the special feeling of being here, and as a bonus, the Studio Tour trams are well on their way to being fully electrified!”
